Jitesh Sharma recently said he idolises Adam Gilchrist growing up and hasn’t seen a better wicketkeeper than the legendary Australian. However, few users on social media have dug out an old clip of him in which he’s lavishing high praise on India legend MS Dhoni.
During an interview, Jitesh, who is representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the ongoing IPL 2025, was asked his wicketkeeping idol.
“Adam Gilchrist,” Jitesh told CricXtasy. “When I started playing cricket professionally, haven’t seen a better wicketkeeper than him (Gilchrist). He will remain my lifetime favourite. I was a big fan of him growing up.”
A clip of the interaction is now going viral on X (formerly Twitter) and a few users are now claiming that Jitesh changed his comments after joining RCB.
Another shared an old interview of Jitesh in which the India cricketer is talking about his admiration for Dhoni and how he watches the videos of the two-time world cup winning captain in his off-time.
“In India, everything starts after MS (Dhoni). So, you don’t even have to take his name. MS first and then everyone else including whoever is your idol. Obviously, he’s an idol be it his wicketkeeping, handling the pressure. During off-season, I try to watch his videos and learn now he reads the game, takes the match to the end, the bowlers he targets. So, I’m learning from his videos. By God’s grace, If I get a chance to interact with him, will try to speak to him and learn more,” Jitesh had said.
Jitesh, after spending three seasons with Punjab Kings, wasn’t retained ahead of the two-day IPL mega auction last year. However, RCB pounced on the opportunity to snag the talented cricketer and splurged a whopping Rs 11 crore to secure his signature.
The 31-year-old has so far scored 730 runs from 41 IPL matches at a strike-rate of 151.13 besides taking 29 catches and effecting 4 stumpings.
