The future of the James Bond
franchise has never been as much of a hot topic as it is right now. With Amazon taking over creative control of the 007 saga from the long-term team of Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, what the next iteration of Bond will look like is unknown, but one former star of Daniel Craig’s era doesn’t want to see too much change.
Naomie Harris
played Moneypenny in the last run of movies, which ended with 2023’s No Time to Die. More than just the usual secretary sitting behind a desk, Harris’ take on the character was modernized in her own way compared to those who came before her, but that does not mean she thinks there has be a big push to do the same for the franchise as a whole. She told Harpers Bazaar:
“I just hope they don’t try to make it too modern – we all grew up with Bond, and I think it needs those classic elements for people to connect with it.”

He also reveals when we will find out who has been chosen as the new 007 in Amazon’s reboot.
Naturally, the publication quizzed Harris as to who she would like to see slipping into a sharp suit as the next James Bond, and she picked her most recent costar – who has often found himself in the running on several occasions.
“Well, I was just in Black Bag with Regé-Jean Page, and he does wear a suit very well.”
Amazon Reportedly Don’t Want to Mess with the James Bond Format
Although the initial kneejerk reaction to Amazon MGM Studios getting their cash-grabbing paws on the Bond franchise was outrage and the declaration that James Bond is dead, insiders have countered this by suggesting that Amazon is well aware of what they now hold in their hands. Last month, a source was quoted as saying:
“There have been so many erroneous rumors about the future of Bond. Amazon is committed to keeping the spirit of Bond alive and that means he has to be British or from the Commonwealth – and he has to be male.”
Of course, there is nothing currently confirmed in any way about what James Bond will look like when he returns, but we do know that is likely to be quite a while before the super spy makes his way back onto the big screen again. The search for a new actor to take over from Daniel Craig is still ongoing. There is no indication that scripts or a story have even been looked at, and with the latest changes behind the scenes, it is inevitable that there will be a short delay in things really getting moving again.
In the meantime, speculation over who will be the next person to pay Bond is continuing to pull out multiple names as being “first in line” to be the new holder of the license to kill. From old hands like Henry Cavill to relative newcomers in Taron Egerton, and even old Bond star Pierce Brosnan, the simple fact is that no one has any idea who is going to be the next James Bond, but isn’t it good to go around in circles of speculation trying to stick a pin on a name.
