Houston, the world mourn death of George Foreman
Boxing legend George Foreman died Friday at the age of 76 years old. Foreman’s family announced his passing on social media.
“Our hearts are broken,” said the family. “With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr., who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones.”
Foreman, a Houston native, was a two-time heavyweight champion of the world, an Olympian, businessman, minister and more.
“A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose,” the family’s post reads. “He was deeply respected — a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name— for his family.”
The family thanked fans and the public for their “outpouring of love and prayers.” The family also requested privacy as they honor Foreman.
Crabapple fire declared 100% contained
Officials confirmed Friday that the Crabapple Fire had been 100% contained, after battling the blaze for nearly 150 hours.
The fire broke out on the afternoon of Saturday, March 15, about 11 miles north of Fredericksburg along the roadside of Crabapple Road. At its peak, the blaze grew to 9,858 acres as it moved east-southeast through Gillespie County.
“The coordinated efforts of our crews, regional partners, state agencies and federal resources led us to this point,” Fredericksburg Fire Chief Lynn Bizzell said in a post on Facebook. “Although this fire may be contained, our hearts continue to go out to the people that lost homes, property and livestock. Our area is still in extreme drought conditions, so we ask everyone to please be vigilant of anything that may start another fire.”
Officials reminded residents to be extra vigilant about a continued wildfire risk as extreme drought conditions persist in the region.

FBI Houston arrests gang leader wanted in Honduras
FBI Houston announced Friday that its agents, in partnership with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, arrested an individual who is affiliated with MS-13 and wanted by Honduran authorities.
According to officials, the individual was a leader of Banda de Mango, an MS-13 affiliated group comprised of current and former Honduran police and military members. The individual is wanted for alleged armed robberies, kidnappings and murders in Honduras.
Trump shouts out Texas before signing policy to dismantle DOE
Texas’ top three elected officials – Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Attorney General Ken Paxton – were all at the White House on Thursday to witness President Donald Trump sign an executive order to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education.
Trump shouted out Texas as he shared remarks about making good on his campaign promise to “return education to the states.” The president blamed the Department of Education for America’s subpar academic performance. Trump referred to the move as creating opportunities for “states that run very, very well, including a big state like Texas” to advance their education systems to be comparable to the top-performing nations in the world.
“We want to return our students to the states,” Trump said. “Some of the governors are so happy about this. They want education to come back to them, to come to the states and they’re going to do a phenomenal job.”
Abbott, Patrick and Paxton, who are all staunch Trump supporters, commended the president’s executive order.
DFW area hospitals stay vigilant following possible terror threat
Earlier this week the American Hospital Association (AHA) and Health-ISAC announced they observed a social media post regarding “active planning of a coordinated, multi-city terrorist attack on hospitals in coming weeks.”
AHA and Health-ISAC said they were sharing the information as a precaution and to spread awareness. At the time, officials said they did not have enough information to corroborate or discount the threat’s credibility.
The organizations advised hospital networks to review their physical security, cybersecurity and emergency management plans. They also advised hospitals to be vigilant for any suspicious activity.
“Generally, foreign terrorist groups do not publicize their upcoming attacks,” said Health-ISAC. “However, this widely viewed post may encourage others to engage in malicious activity directed toward the health sector, so threats of this nature should be taken seriously. Security teams should review emergency management plans and spread awareness of the potential threat internally.”
The organizations also noted that they are in close contact with the FBI regarding any potential threats.
Stephen Love, president of the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council, told The Dallas Morning News, that they are taking the necessary precautions and remaining vigilant.
“We have good security at our hospitals, but everyone here in the North Texas area is being vigilant just in case,” said Love. “We have normal security. We have practices in place. We want our patients, families and our staff to be safe.”
The council represents 90 hospitals in North Texas, according to The Dallas Morning News.
