Naomi Watts Matches Her Canine Costar at N.Y.C. Premiere of ‘The Friend’: Photos

Naomi Watts took a furry friend named Bing to the New York City premiere of her movie, The Friend!

Watts, 56, perfectly matched with the pooch — her costar in the drama — wearing an open-back white dress featuring black furry spots on the skirt, just like the Great Dane’s coat.

Bing stole the show at the premiere on March 24, having a solo moment on the red carpet before taking a moment to lie down as Watts petted him and fed him treats in a sweet scene captured by the cameras.

The actress was quick to gush about her canine costar, telling PEOPLE at the premiere that it was “unbelievable” to work with Bing.

“Every day he brought something special and surprised us every step of the way,” she says. “The old saying is don’t work with animals or children, more time, more money, but he did everything that was required from the page and then some.”

“He really blew us all away, impossible tasks sometimes as well,” Watts continues. “It was wonderful to watch. He’s a very soulful dog.”

Along with Bing, Watts stars in The Friend alongside her pal and St. Vincent costar Bill Murray. She plays a novelist living in New York City who is suddenly tasked with taking care of her friend Walter’s (Murray) Great Dane after his death.

“After the unexpected death of her closest friend and mentor, New York novelist and writing teacher Iris becomes the caretaker of both his literary legacy and his beloved Great Dane, Apollo,” an official synopsis for the film reads.

Days before the premiere, Watts shared a video on Instagram of the moment she wrapped her final scene on The Friend.

“That was Naomi’s last shot!” a man on the set could be seen saying as people started to clap and cheer. Bing then started barking and howling as Watts smiled, before a series of clips played of Bing sending off other stars on the film.

“Howls all around! THE FRIEND was so, so special to film. And every time an actor wrapped their work on the film, Bing would give us a special send off 🐶,” Watts captioned the video. “#TheFriendMovie is in select theaters on March 28 and released nationwide on April 4.
