Bears to sign WR Olamide Zaccheaus to 1-year deal

Date:

The Bears are giving Caleb Williams another receiving weapon.

Thursday, they agreed to give receiver Olamide Zaccheaus, who had 45 catches for 506 yards for the Commanders last season, a one-year deal, a source confirmed.

Zaccheaus stands 5-foot-8 and figures to play slot receiver with the team. Zaccheaus, who turns 28 in July, becomes the team’s third-most reliable receiver, behind DJ Moore and second-year player Rome Odunze.

The Bears will become his fourth team in as many seasons. An undrafted free agent, he spent the first four years of his career with the Falcons. His best season came in 2022, when he caught 40 passes for 533 yards and three touchdowns, After an underwhelming season in Philadelphia, he signed with the Commanders last year and almost repeated his 2022 showing.

Zaccheaus returned 17 punts for 179 yards last year. He’s been used on kickoffs in his career, too.

Zaccheaus played alongside two of the newest Bears, Drew Dalman and Grady Jarrett in Atlanta. His quarterback for the first three years of his career was Matt Ryan, who went to Boston College with Bears GM Ryan Poles and remains one of his good friends.

He went to high school with Bears running back D’Andre Swift.
